Maryellen George
"Maryellen demonstrates through the art of narrative storytelling that she is not one to be limited by anything in life and that she is to face uncertainties in full force, naturalising her status as a fierce and formidable female icon in the performing arts scene." "The art of comedy is often underrated but also incredibly challenging to master...and yet, Maryellen makes it look effortless and flawless." Tema - This is honestly the best review haha I'm proud of it. "Dosed on stimulants and armed with her charisma, Maryellen entertains with her Ross Noble tangents" James, Adelaide WN 5 star review here: https://www.weekendnotes.com/anecdotal-evidence-adelaide-fringe-100176/ The blurb I'm working on for my next solo should sum it up: A tale of narcolepsy, stand up comedy, survival, and freedom told by an idiot. No wait, I was trying to reference Shakepeare and I messed it up. I’m not an idiot, I know Shakespeare. Not personally… If you want my trauma laid out with zero to little humor this is not for you. If you like a serving of laughs alongside your pathos this might just be the ticket that cheered up Charlie. She’s had every label from Narcoleptic, ADHD, Bisexual, Anxious, Depressed, PCOS, PMDD, WPW, GAAD, SAD, Incontinent, and Gorgeous, by the end of this show, guess which of those still apply. I switched from first to third person, damn it, I am an idiot. If you believe in grammar anymore. I think the better Shakespeare quote is ‘though she be but little she is fierce’. Let’s go! ... I'm a comedian, I previously worked my way up in the Melbourne Comedy Festival Scene. I have two solo shows under my belt. My first show 'Call Me Me' toured MICF and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. I won the Adelaide Fringe Artist's Grant to tour my solo show 'Anecdotal Evidence' in 2023. That show received great reviews (5 star) and I took it to MICF but after my final show I had to cancel the rest of the tour due to reasons I'll explain in my next show. I have also twice produced and hosted the sell-out successful 'Open Bike', a comedy show performed in a spin cycle studio with both the audience and comedians on bikes. I was diagnosed with narcolepsy in 2023 and my health rapidly declined with additional complications. I had to take time off work and comedy. But now I'm back (with your help, I hope).
